HOLYOKE, MA – Katie Enaire (Amesbury, MA) and Liz Day (North Andover, MA) each scored two goals as No. 2 UMass Lowell shutout American International, 5-0, in Northeast-10 field hockey action Thursday night.
The River Hawks improve to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the NE-10. The Yellow Jackets are 0-3 overall and 0-2 in league games with the loss.
In addition to the pair of goals scored by Eniare and Day, freshman Abby Auld also scored for UML.
Day scored the first two goals for the River Hawks, the first an unassisted strike at the 3:50 mark of the match. She found the back of the cage a second time less than five minutes later – at 8:05 – with an assist from Jaci Moulton (Baldwinville, MA).
Enaire added to the River Hawks’ lead with a pair of goals, the first coming at 9:57, and the other coming in the 53rd minute of play. Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, MA) and Michelle Harrington (Rockport, MA) earned the assists on Enaire’s goals.
Auld, a freshman, wrapped up the UML scoring with her first career goal in her third collegiate game.
The River Hawks out-shot the Yellow Jackets 21-2 for the game – 11-0 in the first half and 10-2 in the second. UML also held the advantage in penalty corners, 14-2.
Danielle Dodier (Kensington, NH) earned her second consecutive win in goal for UMass Lowell. Dodier did not make any saves while playing the first 35 minutes of the match.
Amy Carbon (Bellingham, MA) played the second half for the River Hawks and made two stops.
Nicole Spence (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) started in goal for the Yellow Jackets and allowed three goals on three shots faced in 9:57 of play. Kim Steiner (Redford, N.Y.) relieved her and made 10 saves while allowing two goals in 60:03 of playing time.
The River Hawks return to the field Wednesday night when they travel to Bentley College. The Yellow Jackets are next in action Sunday afternoon at Bentley.
