LOWELL, Mass. – Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) scored three goals and added an assist as Bloomsburg defeated UMass Lowell, 6-2, Sunday afternoon in the 2008 NCAA Division II Field Hockey championship match.

The Huskies have won three national championships in a row – the last two coming against UMass Lowell – and 15 in program history. They improve to 23-1 on the season. The River Hawks, who made their fourth appearance in the NCAA championship in six years, finish the year 20-5.

Vanartsdalen led all scorers in the match with three goals and one assist. She finished the year with 40 goals and 102 points.

Bloomsburg struck for two quick goals in the first two minutes of the match and built a 3-0 lead by the 5:33 mark of the opening half.

Jamie Vanartsdalen scored two of the first three goals, the first coming just 1:20 into the match. Just 55 seconds later Maggey Bloskey (Danville, Pa.) scored her 21st goal of the season to make it 2-0 Huskies. Vanartsdalen added her second goal of the match, at 5:33, as the Huskies took a 3-0 lead.

The River Hawks battled back to make it a one-goal game at the half. Senior captain and midfielder Missy Seeley (East Hampstead, N.H.) got the River Hawks on the board with her sixth goal of the season at 8:49. Molly Clay (Rockport, Mass.) assisted on the goal.

Seeley had a hand in UML’s second goal of the match assisting on Jaci Moulton’s (Baldwinville, Mass.) 15th goal of the season just before the half ended (33:33).

The Huskies scored three more goals in the second half beginning with an Ashley Miller (Shermans Dale, Pa.) strike just 36 seconds into the second. The goal was her 12th of the year with Vanartsdalen picking up the assist.

Vanartsdalen completed the hat trick as Bloomsburg took a 5-2 lead in the 51st minute of play. Chelsea Due (Pen Argyl, Pa.) capped the scoring in the 65th minute of play. Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock, Pa.), who assisted on Vanartsdalen’s first goal of the match, picked up the assist on the goal.

Allison Ziants got the win in goal for Bloomsburg. She allowed two goals and made one save in 70 minutes.

Amy Carbon (Bellingham, Mass.) stopped seven of 12 shots she faced and took the loss. Senior Danielle Dodier (Kensington, N.H.) relieved Carbon and played the final 14 minutes, making one save and allowing one goal.

Bloomsburg out-shot UMass Lowell 19-5. The Huskies held an 18-6 advantage in penalty corners.
