LOWELL – Sophomore OH Jillian Hadder (Yucaipa, CA) compiled 22 kills while sophomore MH Sarah Coscia (Pittsfield, MA) added 21 as UMass Lowell defeated Assumption, 3-0, and lost to the University of Bridgeport, 3-2, Saturday afternoon in a volleyball tri-match at the Costello Athletic Center.
With the split, the River Hawks stand at 14-15 overall and 6-6 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Bridgeport, which defeated Assumption, 3-1, in the second match of the day, improved to 22-11 while Assumption slipped to 3-16 overall and 1-12 in the NE-10.
UMass Lowell hosts Franklin Pierce Friday night (7:00) and caps the regular season Saturday at home against American International (1:00).
UMass Lowell 3, Assumption 0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-20)
Sarah Coscia registered nine kills and three blocks while Jillian Hadder added six kills, four digs and three aces as UMass Lowell defeated Assumption, 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-20) and improved to 6-6 in the Northeast-10 Conference.
Freshman MH Lea Freeman (Methuen, MA) chipped in six kills while junior S Nichole Rondeau (Dracut, MA) compiled 23 assists along with five digs and three kills.
Junior OH Courtney Stratton (Hudson, NH) led the Greyhounds with eight kills and four digs while junior OH Jessica Haller (Meriden, CT) led the defense with 14 digs. Sophomore S Marilisa Strand (Sarasota, FL) dished out 13 assists.
Bridgeport 3, Assumption 1 (25-16, 25-11, 21-25, 25-2)
Junior OH Olga Sidorova (Ekaterinburg, Russia) registered 14 kills, five digs and three service aces while hitting .400 to lead Bridgeport over Assumption, 3-1 (25-16, 25-11, 21-25, 25-2) in a non-conference match.
Senior MH Emma Ariyo (Kampala, Uganda) added 10 kills and hit .474. Junior OH Juliana Moraes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) added six kills, 10 digs and three aces while junior L J.J. Edwards (Georgetown, ONT) led the defense with 15 digs.
Marilisa Strand led Assumption with five kills, 11 assists and 12 digs.
Bridgeport 3, UMass Lowell 2 (25-16, 31-33, 22-25, 25-9, 15-6)
Emma Ariyo compiled 16 kills, six service aces and three blocks as Bridgeport defeated UMass Lowell, 3-2 (25-16, 31-33, 22-25, 25-9, 15-6) in a non-conference clash.
Jillian Hadder registered 16 kills and seven digs while Sarah Coscia chipped in 15 kills and three blocks for UMass Lowell. The River Hawks also received 12 kills, eight digs and four blocks from junior OH Elsa LeGrand (Highlands Ranch, CO).
Nichole Rondeau dished out 40 assists while junior libero Allie Eide (Gresham, OR) compiled 19 digs.
J.J. Edwards led the Bridgeport defense with 27 digs.
