EAST STROUDSBURG, PA - Sophomore OH Jillian Hadder (Yucaipa, CA) posted 15 kills as UMass Lowell defeated Adelphi, 3-2, Friday night in the first round at the East Stroudsburg Tournament at the Koehler Field House. The victory was the fourth straight for the River Hawks, who improved to 11-13 entering Saturday's matches against Bowie State (10:00) and the host Warriors (1:00). Adelphi, ranked No. 7 in the NCAA East Region Poll, slipped to 20-9. The win, which avenged a 3-1 loss to the Panthers on Oct. 4, was also UMass Lowell's second over a ranked opponent within the week. Last Friday, the River Hawks edged No. 9 Saint Rose (3-2). Sophomore MH Sarah Coscia (Pittsfield, MA) registered 11 kills while junior Elsa LeGrand (Highlands Ranch, CO) added 10 kills, 11 digs and seven blocks. Junior S Nichole Rondeau (Dracut, MA) dished out 35 assists and also compiled 16 digs and 18 service points. Junior L Allie Eide (Gresham, OR) led the defense with 23 digs. The River Hawks also got contributions from freshman MH Lea Freeman (Methuen, MA), who chipped in six kills; and sophomore MH Kaitlynne Akroyd (Methuen, MA), who had five blocks.
