MANCHESTER, NH – Sophomore F Jeff Dell’Orfano scored in the eighth minute of overtime as Saint Anselm College defeated UMass Lowell, 3-2, Sunday in a Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer clash in Manchester, NH. The loss halted a five-match unbeaten streak for the River Hawks (2-0-3), who slipped to 3-2-3 overall and 2-1-2 in the NE-10 entering Wednesday’s home match against the University of New Haven (7:00). The Hawks improved to 3-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the Conference. UMass Lowell grabbed a 2-0 lead, the first coming six seconds from halftime when sophomore F Stephen Potcner (Wilmington, MA) took possession from a defender in the Saint Anselm box and tucked a shot by junior G John Corridan. The River Hawks doubled their lead in the 54th minute on a similar play, with the beneficiary senior F Matt Dubois (Dracut, MA), his fourth goal of the season. Saint Anselm answered five minutes later when Dell’Orfano scored his first goal off a corner kick from junior M Tyler Sangster. Senior F Sam Lamptey knotted the score in the 66th minute when junior D Paul Kilday set him up with a through-ball, with which he slotted past junior G Ryan Richards (Holden, MA). Dell’Orfano scored the winner when he picked off a pass in the UMass Lowell box and tucked it by Richards. UMass Lowell outshot the Hawks 21-12 overall and 12-9 on target as Richards turned away six shots and Corridan 10 for Saint Anselm.
