RINDGE, NH – Freshman D Erin Fleury (Princeton, MA) scored the lone goal in the 104th minute as UMass Lowell stunned No. 15 Franklin Pierce, 1-0, in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer clash Tuesday night at Sodexho Field. With the victory, UMass Lowell improved to 6-3-3 overall and 5-2-3 in the NE-10 entering Saturday’s match at Saint Rose. The River Hawks are unbeaten in six of their last seven matches (5-1-1). The Ravens slipped to 7-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the Conference. The victory is UMass Lowell’s first-ever over the Ravens in 16 meetings since women’s soccer began at the University in 1995. In the last two meetings, the River Hawks drew 1-1 in 2007 and 0-0 in the 2006 NCAA Tournament first round (FPU advanced on penalty kicks, 4-3). FPU leads the all-time series 13-1-2. Fleury scored the winner when senior F Natalia Mendoza (Haverhill, MA) stopped a ball from going over the endline and nudged a pass to freshman M Jenna McIntosh (Johnstown, NY), who found Fleury at the top of the 18-yard box. Fleury settled and curled a shot into the top right corner of the goal, her second strike of the year. The Ravens outshot UMass Lowell 12-5 overall and 5-4 on target as junior Jamie Gillis (North Billerica, MA) halted five shots en route to her fifth shutout of the season and 22nd of her career. FPU seemingly scored in the 89th minute when a header sophomore F Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg, Sweden) went to the foot of junior M Gabriela Demoner (Curitiba, Brazil), who was ruled offside. Just prior, freshman F Amanda Panaro (Rockland, MA) had a golden opportunity, but her attempt was cleared by the defense. Senior G Brittany Ester (Toms River, NJ) had three saves for FPU.
