WEST HAVEN, CT – Senior M Selina Moylan converted a penalty kick 20 seconds from time as the University of New Haven defeated UMass Lowell, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer clash in West Haven, CT. The loss snapped UMass Lowell’s four-match unbeaten streak (3-0-1) as the River Hawks slipped to 4-3-3 overall and 3-2-3 in the NE-10 entering Saturday’s home clash against Bentley (1:00). New Haven improved to 6-4-1 overall and 4-2-0 in the Conference. New Haven earned the penalty kick as the result of a foul inside the Charger box with just 20 seconds remaining. Moylan tucked the attempt by junior G Jamie Gillis (North Billerica, MA) for the winner. New Haven opened the scoring in the 36th minute when freshman M Ali Espanol crossed from the right side to sophomore F Emily Buckley-Matura, who put it inside the far post. The River Hawks leveled five minutes later, when junior F Kelly Soper (Auburn, MA) played the ball to senior M Margaret Gonsalves (Fall River, MA), who lofted a shot over the grasp of UNH goalkeeper Kim Taylor. The River Hawks outshot the Chargers 10-6 overall and 5-4 on target. Gillis had two saves for UMass Lowell while Taylor stopped four shots for New Haven.
