BRIARCLIFF, NY - Senior F Natalia Mendoza (Haverhill, MA) broke a scoreless drought in the 79th minute to lead UMass Lowell over Pace, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer clash in Briarcliff, NY.
With the win, the River Hawks increased their unbeaten streak to four matches (3-0-1) and improved to 4-2-3 overall and 3-1-3 in the NE-10 entering Wednesday's clash at New Haven (4:00).
Pace slipped to 2-5-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the Conference.
Freshman M Maddy Bissaillon (Merrimac, MA) chased down a cross from senior M Margaret Gonsalves (Fall River, MA), which she collected and found Mendoza who one-timed a blast from the top of the six-yard box.
The River Hawks outshot the Setters 14-7 overall and 9-2 on target. Junior G Jamie Gillis (North Billerica, MA) earned her third clean sheet in her last four matches (20th of her career) with two saves while junior Breanna Gault stopped eight shots.
