LOWELL, MA – Freshmen Hannah Merullo (Wakefield, MA) and Maddy Bissaillon (Merrimac, MA) scored goals 28 seconds apart as UMass Lowell and Saint Anselm drew 2-2 in double overtime Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer clash at Cushing Field.  With the draw, UMass Lowell currently stands at 3-2-3 overall and 2-1-3 in the NE-10 entering Saturday’s match at Pace Saturday (2:00). Saint Anselm stands at 3-3-2 overall an 2-1-2 in the Conference and visits Bridgeport Saturday (6:00).  UMass Lowell struck early in the second half, the first by Merullo who tapped in a cross by senior F Natalia Mendoza (Haverhill, MA).  The River Hawks doubled their lead on the very next sequence when Bissaillon converted from just outside the 18-yard box from a drop-off by sophomore F Brianne Bozzella (Wilmington, MA).  Saint Anselm nearly scored in the 57th when junior F Heidi Reece (Salem, NY) struck the post. The Hawks, however, broke the drought in the 65th when junior F Ryann Cullinan (Windham, MA) hit the post, but converted her own rebound to cut the deficit in half.  The goal halted a string of 258 scoreless minutes by junior G Jamie Gillis (North Billerica, MA) and the River Hawks, who last surrendered a goal in the second half of a 2-0 loss to Southern Connecticut on Sept. 13.  In the 73rd, junior D Michelle Dickson (Manchester, NH) headed in a free kick from senior D Kathleen Kennerly (Weymouth, MA) for the leveler.  UMass Lowell had a 16-13 edge on shots, including 8-7 on target as Gillis turned away five shots. Sophomore G Jacqueline Cooney (Braintree, MA) had six saves for Saint Anselm.
