LOWELL, MA – Jill Tierney (Newburyport, MA) had two goals and an assist as No. 4 UMass Lowell defeated Saint Michael’s, 6-0, Tuesday night in Northeast-10 field hockey action at Cushing Field. The River Hawks have won two straight and 13 of 14 and improve to 13-3 on the season. They are 13-1 in the NE-10. The loss drops the Purple Knights to 7-7 overall and 7-7 in the NE-10. Tierney posted a season-high five points with two goals and an assist in the match. Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, MA) also scored twice for UMass Lowell.Jaci Moulton (Baldwinville, MA) and Abby Auld (Waltham, MA) also scored goals for UML. Missy Seeley (East Hampstead, NH) had two assists. The River Hawks scored three goals in each half. Macy got UML on the board at 21:38 with her 16th goal of the season. Tiereny and Moulton followed with goals in the 27th and 30th minutes respectively. Tierney netted her seventh of the year at 27:42 with an assist from Lizzy Ales (Arlington, MA). Moulton tallied her 12th goal of the season, an unassisted goal, at 30:13. Macy scored her second of the night and 17th of the season at 44:32 to open the second half scoring. Seeley, who also assisted on Macy’s first of the night, picked up the assist. Tierney figured into the final two goals of the match, scoring her second of the night at 51:43 and assisting on Auld’s strike at 52:55. UML had 11 shots in each half and out-shot Saint Michael’s 22-7 for the game. The River Hawks also held the advantage in penalty corners, 10-9. Amy Carbon (Bellingham, MA) picked up her eighth win of the season in goal for UML. Carbon made one save in 35 minutes. Danielle Dodier (Kensington, NH) made one save in 35 minutes off the bench. Jordan Smalling (Essex Junction, VT) made seven saves, but took the loss allowing all six goals. Meghan McLaughlin (Cape Elizabeth, ME) played the final 12:44 of the match for Saint Michael’s, making two saves. The River Hawks are next in action Thursday night when they host Assumption. The Purple Knights next play Thursday when they host Saint Anselm.
