LOWELL, MA – Freshman M Maddy Bissaillon (Merrimac, MA) scored the lone goal and junior G Jamie Gillis (North Billerica, MA) stopped four shots as UMass Lowell and Merrimack College drew 1-1 in double overtime Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer clash at Cushing Field. With the draw, the River Hawks stand at 1-1-2 overall and 0-0-2 in the NE-10 entering Saturday’s home match against Southern Connecticut (1:00). The Warriors are currently 2-0-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the Conference. Bissaillon opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when she picked up a loose ball at the top of the box and roped a shot just inside the right post. The Warriors leveled in the 53rd minute when sophomore M Kerri Domohowski crossed to junior F Gabrielle Gramprey who tucked a shot inside the left post. UMass Lowell outshot the Warriors 24-15 overall and 16-5 on target. Senior G Shannon Rowan halted 13 shots for Merrimack, which also cleared a pair of UML attempts off the line. Both teams had opportunities to win in overtime, though the Warriors with the better ones in the first session. Just one minute into overtime, Gramprey one-timed a cross, which elicited a sprawling save from Gillis. In the 98th, Gramprey’s attempt from the right side of the box grazed the far post. Her best chance came less than a minute later when she came through the box and struck a rebound of the bar. UML nearly capitalized in the 96th minute when an attempt by senior M Grace Larsen (Newburyport, MA) was cleared off the line by a defender. Junior Kelly Soper (Auburn, MA) went close in the 106th minute, but was snuffed by Rowan.
