Late Surge Not Enough as River Hawks Fall at Bloomfield, 68-63

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - Sophomore C Tiffany McDaniel scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Bloomfield College defeated UMass Lowell, 68-63 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference women's basketball clash at the Bloomfield Gymnasium.

With the loss, UMass Lowell slipped to 2-2 overall entering Tuesday's game at Stonehill. The loss also halted a 12-game winning streak against non-conference opponents dating back to the 2005-06 season.

Bloomfield improved to 1-2.

Valente converted 7 of 14 field goal attempts and grabbed five rebounds before drawing her fifth foul late in the second half. Senior F Antonnea Robinson (West Haven, CT) added 17 points and 10 rebounds - including six offensive - while junior G Megan Berry (Ipswich, MA) registered 16 points.

Senior G Renee Vales chipped in 15 points for the Deacons.

The River Hawks trailed 60-40 with 6:30 left top play, but used a 22-4 run to cut the lead to 64-62 with 1:04 remaining. Valente and Robinson each scored seven points to fuel the run.

The Deacons, however, meshed 4 of 4 free throws in the final minute to seal the win.
