Harrington, Macy Lead No. 4 UMass Lowell Past Franklin Pierce, 6-4

RINDGE, NH - Michelle Harrington (Rockport, MA) had a goal and two assists as No. 4 UMass Lowell defeated Franklin Pierce, 6-4, Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 field hockey action at Sodexo Field.

The River Hawks have won nine straight and improve to 9-2 overall and 9-0 in the NE-10. The Ravens fall to 3-7 and 3-6 in the NE-10.

In addition to Harrington, Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, MA), Jaci Moulton (Baldwinville, MA), Liz Day (North Andover, MA) and Katie Enaire (Amesbury, MA) scored for the River Hawks.

Jordan Baillargeon (Westfield, MA), Kayleigh Jaksina (Townsend, MA), Danielle Dolan (West Brookfield, MA) and Ashley Moirano (Vero Beach, FL) scored for Franklin Pierce.

The River Hawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead beginning with Moulton's 10th goal of the year in the 10th minute of play. Harrington assisted on Moulton's strike and scored her first goal of the year in the 22nd minute.

Macy tallied the first of her two goals in the 31st minute with an assist from junior defender Laura Sullivan (Norwood, MA).

Less than a minute later Jordan Baillaregon got the Ravens on the board - at 31:59 - with her first goal of the year.

Day capped the first half scoring to give UML a 4-1 lead at the break with her fifth goal of the season. Moulton picked up the assist.

Franklin Pierce quickly opened the second half with two quick goals just over a minute apart. Jaksina scored her first of the year at 48:52. Dolan struck at 49:55.

Macy and Harrington combined to stretch the River Hawks' lead back to two goals in the 52nd minute. Macy scored the goal, her team-leading 13th of the year. Harrington notched the assist, her team-leading 10th of the season.

Moirano scored the Ravens fourth and final goal of the afternoon in the 65th minute. Enaire capped the River Hawks scoring in the 69th minute.

Amy Carbon (Bellingham, MA) made one save and allowed three goals, but earned her fifth win in goal. Danielle Dodier (Kensington, NH) surrendered one goal and made one save in relief for the River Hawks.

Kristin Tormollan (Waterville, ME) made eight saves, but took the loss allowing six goals for Franklin Pierce.

The River Hawks out-shot the Ravens, 25-8 for the game. UML also held the advantage in penalty corners, 15-2.

The four goals scored by the Ravens are the most allowed by the River Hawks this season. UML had surrendered just eight goals in 10 games - just three in the previous eight game - entering Sunday's match.

The River Hawks return to the field Thursday when they host American International (7:00 p.m.). The Ravens are next in action Tuesday when they host Southern Connecticut.
