LOWELL, MA - Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, MA) scored three goals and No. 4 UMass Lowell shutout Saint Anselm, 6-0, in Northeast-10 field hockey action Wednesday night at Cushing Field.
The River Hawks have won eight straight, six by shutouts, and improve to 8-2 overall and 8-0 in the NE-10. The Hawks have dropped three straight and fall to 3-5 overall and 3-5 in the NE-10.
In addition to Macy, Katie Enaire (Amesbury, MA), Jaci Moulton (Baldwinville, MA) and Jill Tierney (Newburyport, MA) scored for the River Hawks. UML scored three goals in the first half and three in the second half.
Macy opened the scoring in the match with two goals in a 43-second span early in the first half. She netted her first at 9:28 and the second at 10:11. Missy Seeley (East Hampstead, NH) assisted on both goals.
Enaire rounded out the first half scoring with her seventh of the year in the 24th minute of play. Ashley Smith (Killingsworth, CT) earned the assist.
Moulton made it a 4-0 game early in the second half with her ninth goal of the season in the 39th minute of play. Five minutes later Macy completed her hat trick (43:29) with her 11th goal of the season. Michelle Harrington (Rockport, MA) assisted on Macy's third strike of the night.
Senior Jill Tierney capped the scoring in the 53rd minute, her fourth of the year.
Amy Carbon (Bellingham, MA) got the start, her fourth straight, for UML and picked up the win. She made one save in 35 minutes of play. Danielle Dodier (Kensington, NH) played the second half for the River Hawks and made four saves.
Riley Haddock (Falmouth, ME) stopped eight UML shots, but took the loss for Saint Anselm.
The River Hawks out-shot the Hawks 22-6 for the game, including 13-1 in the first half. UML also held the advantage in penalty corners, 13-1.
The River Hawks return to the field Saturday afternoon when they travel to Franklin Pierce. The Hawks are next in action Saturday when they host Stonehill.
