BOSTON - Junior Jack Kilcommons (South Boston, MA) placed 10th overall (ninth among scoring runners) in his season debut as the UMass Lowell men's cross country team placed third at the 2008 Codfish Bow Invitational Saturday at Franklin Park.
The River Hawks scored 101 points (9, 13, 21, 23, 35 - 37, 41) and placed second to the Greater Boston Track Club (49) and Tufts University (76). The meet drew 155 runners representing 17 Division II and III colleges as well as a handful of postgraduate running clubs.
Kilcommons ran the 8K course in 26:07 and was among four UMass Lowell runners in the top 26 places. Junior Steve O'Brien (Groton, MA) placed 14th overall and 13th among scoring runners in 26:25 while freshman Daniel Wang (Haverhill, MA) placed 24th/21st in 26:50 and freshman Eric McDonald (Groveland, MA) 26th/23rd in 26:56.
Sophomore Daniel Maas (Nashua, NH) rounded out UMass Lowell's scoring runners in 43rd/35th with a time of 27:50. Junior Jeremiah Karanja (Lowell, MA) placed 46th/37th in 27:59 while junior Mike Carbone (Fitchburg, MA) took 51st/41st in 28:08.
Jesse Faller of Tufts won the individual title in 25:42.
UMass Lowell enters the Keene State Invitational next Saturday.
