Men's Cross Country: UMass Lowell Captures Trinity College Invitational

HARTFORD, CT – Junior Rex Radloff (Dedham, MA) placed eighth and led four teammates who finished in places ninth through 12th as the UMass Lowell men’s cross country team captured the Trinity College Invitational Saturday at Wickham Park.

The River Hawks compiled 50 points, edging the host Bantams who placed second with 51 points. Keene State placed third with 67 points and was followed by Tufts (80) and Stonehill (85).

The meet featured 11 teams and 148 runners.

Radloff posted a time of 16:48 for the 5K course as a mere two seconds separated UMass Lowell’s five runners.

Sophomore Angus MacDonald (Methuen, MA) placed ninth in 16:48 and was followed by senior Ruben Sanca (Boston, MA) in 16:49, Jason DeDonato (Nashua, NH) in 16:49 and sophomore Greg Wilson (Chelmsford, MA), who placed 12th in 16:50.

Several River Hawk newcomers gave notable efforts, including freshman Jeff Veiga (Lowell, MA), who placed 21st in 17:05 and sophomore Daniel Maas (Nashua, NH), who placed 32nd in 17:22. Junior Steve O’Brien (Groton, MA) placed 41st in 17:35 while junior Mike Carbone (Fitchburg, MA) placed 43rd in 17:41.

Michael Burnstein of Trinity won the individual title in 16:21.

The River Hawks compete in both the Iona College Meet of Champions and the UMass Dartmouth Invitational next Saturday.
