LOWELL - Senior C Revital Carmon (Bat-Yam, Israel) compiled 13 points and 16 rebounds as UMass Lowell defeated Felician College, 66-51, in the Valley Cup Classic first round Saturday at Costello Athletic Center.
With the victory, the River Hawks improved to 1-0 and will host Mercy College Sunday at 3:00 in the predetermined pairings. In the day's other matchup, Bentley defeated Mercy, 76-54.
Bentley will play Felician Sunday at 1:00.
Carmon converted 5 of 10 field goals and blocked three shots while junior F Jen Valente (Prospect, CT) added 15 points, five rebounds and three assists while converting 5 of 9 field goal attempts.
UMass Lowell also received a lift from senior G Lindsay Gundy (Concord, NH), who played her first collegiate game following seven knee surgeries. Gundy chipped in six points, two rebounds and one assist in 10 minutes, hitting 3 of 4 free throws and her lone field goal attempt, a trey from the right side.
Senior F Crystal Reed (Paterson, NJ) led the Golden Falcons with 12 points and nine rebounds, including seven off the offensive glass. Freshman G Destiny Thompson (Paterson, NJ) and senior F Amanda Bartee (Jersey City, NJ) each chipped in nine points.
