LOWELL (Dec. 10, 2008) - Jamie Wangia, a senior midfielder from Lowell, MA (Lowell H.S.), was named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II Honorable Mention All-America Team, released recently.
The Daktronics Regional and All-America Teams are nominated and voted upon by the country's sports information directors.
The honor is the latest of several this season for Wangia, who helped the UMass Lowell men's soccer team to a 13-4-4 record (9-1-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference), a share of the NE-10 regular season championship and No. 1 seed in the NE-10 Tournament.
The River Hawks advanced to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal - defeating Molloy (3-2) and Southern New Hampshire (2-1) along the way - where they lost at 2008 finalist Dowling 1-0 in double overtime.
Earlier this year, Wangia was named to the Daktronics All-East Region First Team as well as the NE-10 First Team.
Perhaps the most dominant aerial player in the East Region, the 6-foot-2 Wangia registered eight goals - the majority off headers and set pieces - and six assists (22 points) in 21 matches.
For his career, Wangia compiled 14 goals and nine assists (37 points) in 49 appearances.
A native of Thika, Kenya, Wangia is the son of Boaz and Geraldine Wangia of Thika, Kenya.
