LOWELL – Senior F Matt Dubois (Dracut, MA) scored two goals just 2:23 apart in the second half to lead UMass Lowell over the University of New Haven, 4-0, Monday in a Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer clash at Cushing Field. The win was the fifth straight for the River Hawks, who improved to 8-3-2 overall and 7-1-2 in the NE-10 entering Wednesday’s home game against Saint Michael’s (4:00). New Haven slipped to 3-12-0 overall and 2-9-0 in the Conference and visits Stonehill Wednesday at 3:30. Dubois was one of four River Hawks to register multiple points on the night. Senior midfielders Matias Pietropinto (Leominster, MA) and Jamie Wangia (Lowell, MA) each chipped in one goal and one assist while senior D Tim Bengston (Andover, MA) set up UMass Lowell’s first two goals. The River Hawks outshot the Chargers, 17-5 overall and 5-2 on target. Senior G Ryan Richards (Holden, MA) stopped two shots before making way for freshman Peter Rosoff (Framingham, MA) in the 73rd minute, who went untested. Freshman G Jonathan Creem (Naugatuck, CT) had one save for the Chargers. Wangia opened the scoring in the 39th minute when he headed in a cross from Bengston on the left side. Nearly three minutes into the second half, Bengston set up UMass Lowell’s second goal when his throw from the left side was flicked on by the head of Wangia to Pietropinto near the right post, who calmly sidefooted home. Dubois earned his first goal in the 56th minute when Pietropinto delivered a volley from the back, which Dubois touched on the run over the reach of the on-coming Creem. Dubois capped the scoring in the 59th when he took a cross on the left flank from junior M Jhony Valencia (Lowell, MA), settled and tucked a shot into the right corner of the goal.
