WORCESTER – Sophomore F Stephen Potcner (Wilmington, MA) registered his second brace in as many matches as UMass Lowell defeated Assumption College, 2-1 in overtime in a Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer clash Wednesday night at the Multi-Sport Stadium. The victory was the fourth straight for the River Hawks, who improved to 7-2-3 overall and 6-1-2 in the NE-10 entering next Wednesday’s home clash against Saint Michael’s (7:00). Assumption slipped to 5-5-3 overall and 4-3-3 in the Conference. Potcner, who has all seven goals in his last six matches, has scored four of UMass Lowell’s last five goals. Potcner brought UMass Lowell level in the 37th minute when he possessed a loose ball, beat several defenders and uncorked a shot into the lower right corner of the goal. The 6-foot-4 sophomore scored the winner when senior M Matias Pietropinto (Leominster, MA) launched a corner kick, which was flicked on by senior M Jamie Wangia (Lowell, MA) to Potcner, who settled and volleyed inside the left post. Assumption opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when sophomore F Nick Fabrizi converted off a pass from sophomore M Patrick Lindberg. UMass Lowell outshot the Greyhounds 10-5 on target as junior Ryan Richards (Holden, MA) stopped four shots. Sophomore G Brandon Sullivan stopped eight shots for the Greyhounds.
