Plasski, Assumption Turn Back UMass Lowell, 65-54

LOWELL - Senior G Bethany Plasski (Fall River, MA) scored 21 points as Assumption College defeated UMass Lowell, 65-54, Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball clash at the Costello Athletic Center.

With the loss, the River Hawks slipped to 4-4 overall (2-3 in the NE-10) and remain idle until Dec. 29 and 30 when they travel to San Diego, CA, for the Surf and Slam Classic.

Assumption improved to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in the conference.

Senior C Revital Carmon (Bat-Yam, Israel) led the River Hawks with 15 points and 12 rebounds (six offensive) while shooting 7 for 13 from the field. Junior G Rahshala Valentine (Cincinnati, OH) added 13 points.

Sophomore Molly Griffiths (Walpole, MA) chipped in 13 points and six rebounds for the Greyhounds.

Assumption outscored UMass Lowell 25-10 at the free throw line and 15-6 from long range, compensating for the River Hawks' 17-6 advantage on the offensive glass. The Greyhounds also had plenty of help off the bench, outscoring UML 22-9, led by Griffiths' 13.

UMass Lowell trailed 54-44 with 6:36 left to play but used a 10-4 run to cut the deficit to 58-54 with 1:57 left to play. Valentine scored six of her points in the run.

Assumption however, used a jumper by Plasski and converted 5 of 6 free throws over the final 1:13 to seal the win.

Assumption led at the break, 33-22, behind .533 field goal shooting (8-15) and .824 shooting from the free throw line (14-17), the result of 12 River Hawks fouls. Plasski scored 15 of her points in the half.
