Senior guard Bianca Simmons (Middletown, Conn.) was named UMass Lowell's Northwestern Mutual Athlete of the Week Wednesday after leading the women's basketball to a 1-1 week. On Wednesday the River Hawks defeated Saint Rose, 67-65, and on Saturday fell, 72-71, at New Haven.

Last Wednesday Simmons scored 35 points, had nine assist and six rebounds in the win over Saint Rose. On Saturday afternoon in New Haven she scored 30 points, had nine rebounds and four assists.

For the season Simmons is averaging 28.1 points per a game, 7.5 rebounds per a game, and 5.7 assists per a game. Simmons currently leads the nation in points per a game.

Simmons was also named NE-10 Player of the Week on Monday.

Simmons is the daughter of Cheryl and Reginald Simmons of Middletown, Conn.
