After leading the team in points in their final weekend of regulation play, UMass Lowell men's hockey juniorÂ
Carl Berglund (Hammaro, Sweden) has been named the Hockey East Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.
Â
The forward earned his first career weekly nod after amassing a team-best four points across the River Hawks' two-game series against New Hampshire. Berglund ends the regular season schedule with a team-high 26 points alongside fellow countryman and classmate juniorÂ
Andre Lee (Karlstad, Sweden). His 19 assists this season placed him atop the River Hawks' leaderboard in the category.
Â
On Friday, Berglund played a critical role in the team's 6-3 road romp over UNH with three assists. The three helpers placed Berglund at the head of the flock in total points against the Wildcats and marked a season high for the Swedish forward.
Â
Berglund capped off his weekend with the lone goal in Saturday's 1-0 shutout against UNH on home ice. The second period goal was the seventh of the year for Berglund and helped him secure a career-best 26 points before heading into post-season play.
Â
In addition to being tabbed the HEA Player of the Week, Berglund was also named the River Hawk of the Week. The "River Hawk of the Week" is chosen in voting by the UMass Lowell Athletic Communications staff. It honors the top athlete, male or female, based on performance during the previous week of competition.
