LOWELL, Mass.—After closing out his impressive rookie campaign last weekend at the 2021 ECAC/IC4A Championships, sophomore Michael Blake (Hudson, Mass.) of the UMass Lowell men’s track and field program was named the River Hawk of the Week.
 
Blake opened up his weekend of competition with a record-breaking performance in the preliminary round of the men’s 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 10.59 for a personal best. The sprinter’s solid time not only earned him a spot in the 100-meter finals but also set a new UMass Lowell record in the outdoor event.
 
The sophomore closed out his weekend in Springfield with a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter, clocking in at 10.71 in the finals. Additionally, Blake earned eighth in the men’s 200-meter finals, posting a 21.86 finishing time that was just five-hundredths away from his all-time fastest performance.
 
The "River Hawk of the Week" is chosen in voting by the UMass Lowell Athletic Communications staff. It honors the top athlete, male or female, based on performance during the previous week of competition.
