LOWELL, Mass. –
Ivan Abramovic (Zagreb, Croatia) scored the goal of the year in the 108th minute, as the UMass Lowell men's soccer team defeated St. Francis Brooklyn, 2-1, in double overtime for its fourth consecutive victory to start the season.

Jakov Basic (Zagreb, Croatia) came within inches of winning the game when his free kick from 19 yards out froze the keeper, but rang off the crossbar. The rebound went out to Federico Ferre (Waltham, Mass.), who handled the ball down to the goal line and crossed it to Abramovic. The redshirt-freshman was beyond the penalty spot and perfected a bicycle kick that nicked off the far post and in.

"It was a good performance by the guys out there today," remarked Head Coach Christian Figueroa. "We played tough in the end, especially with it being our second overtime game in three days. St. Francis Brooklyn is a tough opponent and showed a lot of energy and our guys deserve that win."

The result ties the longest winning streak in the Division I era, and was career victory number 50 for Figueroa as a coach for the River Hawks, good for second all-time in program history.

UMass Lowell opened the scoring in the 21st minute, on a Carlos Ruiz (East Boston, Mass.) penalty kick for the 1-0 lead. Ivan Abramovic (Zagreb, Croatia) sent a long ball to Alejandro Osorio (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and the freshman was taken down from behind in the box before he could gather the pass, resulting in almost an immediate whistle.

St. Francis Brooklyn outshot the River Hawks, 4-1, in the first 45 minutes with only one shot on goal.  Austin Kroll (Baltimore, Md.) was forced into making a point blank save on Djiby Sarr in the 8th minute, the stop was the junior's first since the 84th minute in the win at Monmouth.

Kroll made another one-on-one save in the 54th minute, and on the counter attack Wuilito Fernandes' (Praia, Cape Verde) attempt went high above the crossbar.

The Terriers' Leo Folla knotted up the score in the 73rd minute, when his shot from inside the six-yard box snuck into the net.

After the visitor's goal, the River Hawks held an advantage in opportunities, including three in the final minute but regulation ended with the score still tied.

The best chances in the overtime period came from the hosts, with Dario Jovanovski (Zagreb, Croatia) sending a shot wide and Fernandes had his shot sent away by a diving Seth Erdman in the 104th and 105th minutes, respectively.

St. Francis Brooklyn finished the game with an 11-10 advantage in shots, with Kroll making four saves and Erdman stopped three shots.

UMass Lowell will go for win number five on September 10 at Quinnipiac, game time is set for 2 p.m.
