Norm Bazin has announced the addition of two players to the 2014-15 River Hawks roster, which includes goaltender Olli Kälkäjä (Oulu, Finland) and defenseman
Tyler Mayea (Burlington, Ont.).
Kälkäjä spent five seasons as a member of the Oulun Kärpät junior teams in Finland. He was member of the Finland National U-20 Team in 2011-12 and named to the Finland National U-16 team in 2008-09. He saw action in 37 games during the 2013-14 NAHL regular season with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, maintaining 1.86 GAA and .915 save percentage. In two playoffs games in 2014, he posted a 1.45 GAA and a .930 save percentage for the Killer Bees.
Mayea played most recently for the Trenton Golden Hawks of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, playing in 52 games during the regular season. He led defensemen in scoring with 49 points (11g,38a). Mayea posted eight points (2g,6a) in 12 playoff games for the Golden Hawks. He played for Northeast All-Star Team at Central Canada Cup and was named Second-Team League All-Star. He saw action in 49 games throughout the 2012-13 season for the Burlington Cougars. He accumulated 20 points (6g,14a) in the regular season and posted three points (1g,2a) in four games during the playoffs. In 2011-12, he appeared in 45 games with the the Terrebonne Cobras (QJHL). He notched 28 points (5g,23a) during the regular season and was an assistant captain. He was a member of QJHL All-Star team that won the Central Canada Cup. He was the runner-up for Defenseman of the Year.
The River Hawks open the regular season in defense of their Hockey East Tournament Championship on Friday, October 10 against Boston College. Game time at the Tsongas Center is 7 p.m.
