Bianca Simmons totaled 10 Northeast-10 Player of the Week honors throughout the course of the season. Now, she can add Player of the Year to her list of accomplishments.
Friday, the Northeast-10 named Simmons the conference's Player of the Year. Simmons was also named to the NE-10 All-Conference First Team.
Simmons led the nation with 28.2 PPG, capped off by a 45-point performance in the final game of the regular season, a 100-70 loss to Bentley University. Simmons fell just three points shy of UMass Lowell's single game scoring record of 48, set by Darlene Orlando-Ciarcia on Feb. 7, 1994.
The 45 points were the most of Simmons' career, eclipsing her previous total of 38 points, which she totaled earlier in the season in a double overtime win at Palm Beach Atlantic.
Simmons did more than just put up big points. The senior also averaged 5.5 assists, 7.4 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game, each of which led her team.
Simmons and the River Hawks will now turn their focus to the Northeast-10 Tournament. UMass Lowell will host No.5 Franklin Pierce on Sunday, March 3 (3:00).
