Biography

(1987) - The finest high jumper in the University of Lowell[apos]s track history, Bob Belcher still holds the school indoor and outdoor records in that even and is the program[apos]s only 7 foot high jumper. Belcher is the owner of the top seven jumps outdoors and seven of the top nine jumps indoors. He is elected to the Hall of Fame in his second year of eligibility. A Division II All-American in 1981 when he placed third after jumping 7-0 at the NCAA Championships, Bob won the Eastern League championship jumping 6-7 and New England Outdoor Championship with a jump of 7-0 that same season. He won the Eastern League crown as a junior with a height of 6-81/2 and the New England championship with a leap of 6-101/4 as a sophomore. He placed second at the New England meet jumping 6-10 as a junior. He qualified three straight years for the NCAA Division II meet and also qualified for the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships in 1980. A model of consistency, Bob won the Eastern League indoor title as a senior setting a meet record with a jump of 6-11. he became the school[apos]s first 7-foot jumper indoors that year and won the New England AAU meet. He finished sixth at both the New England and IC4A championships that year and was undefeated in dual meet competition. Belcher also won the Eastern League indoor crown as a sophomore.
