Audio Recap - Florida Southern 1 UMass Lowell 0

Junior F Kerri-Ann Brown (Apopka, FL) scored the lone goal in the 52nd minute as Florida Southern College defeated UMass Lowell, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference women's soccer clash at Cushing Field.

With the loss, UMass Lowell slipped to 1-2 overall entering Wednesday's match at Stonehill (4:00). The Moccasins improved to 2-2 and host Thomas College Friday at 5:00.

Against the run of play, Brown scored the winner when sophomore M Emily Griffith (Ellicott City, MD) fed her a through-ball, sending Brown on a one-on-one break which she tucked inside the right post.

UMass Lowell outshot the Moccasins, 13-6 overall and 4-2 on target, and enjoyed the run of play for the majority of the match. Freshman F Gia O'Connor (Dracut, MA) nearly opened the scoring when she possessed a clearance by FSC and sent a volley which caromed off the crossbar in the 20th minute.

Five minutes later, junior Ella Merullo (Wakefield, MA) also came close, but her header off O'Connor's cross rolled agonizingly wide right.

In the 39th, freshman Keanna Santos (Lakeville, MA) broke free for a one-on-one, but her shot was tipped by sophomore G Martina Tangen Billing (Uppsala, Sweden). The rebound, however, deflected off a FSC defender and was cleared off the line.

The Moccasins also had a chance in the 44th, but a free kick by sophomore M Alex Hoover (West Palm Beach, FL) soared over the bar. Hoover also had FSC's best chance of the second half when she broke free of the UMass Lowell defense, but again put her attempt just over the bar.

Senior G Jamie Gillis (North Billerica, MA) stopped two shots for UMass Lowell while Billing had four saves for FSC.
