After a four-year career with the UMass Lowell hockey program, forward Nick Monroe (Groton, Mass.) has signed with the Huntsville Havoc of the Southern Professional Hockey League, SPHL.
"I'm looking for Nick to be an impact player in his first professional season," said Havoc head coach Randy Murphy in a team press release. "He comes from a great Division 1 school where he played for four years. He has great speed, good hockey sense, and intelligence in the defensive zone. I feel Nick could put up some really good offensive numbers as well."
Monroe saw the River Hawk program transform from the brink of elimination to the Hockey East Championship game during his tenure, emerging as key contributor during his senior season.
The durable forward saw action in 128 career games, notching 19 points on six goals and 13 assists. In his final season, Monroe scored 10 points on three goals and seven assists.
Monroe's senior season saw the River Hawks' reach new heights, competing in the Hockey East Finals for just the second time in program history. UMass Lowell finished with a 20-16-2 record and several memorable highlights, including a 3-2 overtime victory over Northeastern in the conference semi-finals.
