(1979) - Michael Finocchio enjoyed a tremendous basketball career at Lowell Technological Institute (1968-1972). He was LTI's all-time scoring king with 1675 career points and 20.2 career average. The talented cager scored 575 points his senior year, 546 as a junior, 354 as a sophomore, and 200 as a freshman.
Finocchio held LTI records for most points scored in a season (575), most field goals in a season (230), most career free throws made (367), and most fames played (83). His career shooting percentages from both the floor (50.1%) and the free throw line (73.1%) were outstanding.
The former hoop captain was once named to the ECAC Division III Weekly All-Star team five weeks in a row, and was selected to the UPI All-New England Small College squad. He was also nominated for and played in the Hall of Fame All-Star squad. He was also nominated for and played in the Hall of Fame All-Star Classic in Springfield scoring 14 points. Finocchio also was a member of the cross country team at LTI. Finoccio was honored as the recipient of the coveted Lester H. Cushing Award as the Outstanding Senior Athlete at LTI.
