(1984) - Another of Lowell Textile Institute's outstanding student-athletes of the late 1920' and early 1930's, Gerry Quigley was a four-year letterman in both basketball and baseball.
The captain of Lowell Textile's second finest basketball team, Quigley was noted for his playmaking and defensive skills. He played both forward and guard for coach "Rusty" Yarnell on teams dominated by fellow Hall of Famers Aimee Savard, Julius Jarek, Ed Allard, and Joe Hardman.
During his four years on the basketball team, LTI compiled a 40-33 record. On the baseball diamond, he helped LTI to a 16-25 record while playing third base.
One of the finest third baseman LTI ever had, Quigley was a team player all the way. During one season, he played centerfield to help strengthen the team in that position, then moved to catcher when the team's three catchers all came down with injuries.
Not just a fine athlete, Quigley was in many school plays and was president of the Lowell Textile Players as a senior. He was also class president as a senior and served on the Executive Council of the Athletic Association for three years.
Quigley received the LTI Alumni Association special award for outstanding service in 1969.
