Five run second inning lifts Setters past River Hawks in conference playoffs
LOWELL, Mass. (May 7, 2008) – Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, Conn.) had three hits, two runs and two RBI as Pace defeated UMass Lowell, 7-1, in the Northeast-10 baseball playoffs Wednesday afternoon.
The Setters improve to 31-21 and advance to the Northeast-10 tournament semifinals. The River Hawks fell to 26-24 overall and were eliminated from the NE-10 playoffs with the loss.
Liscinsky was one of three Setters with multiple hits; he was 3-for-5. Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, N.J.) was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Aaron Zrendad was 2-for-4.
Liscinsky had two hits, a run and an RBI in the first two innings. He scored on a sacrifice fly in the first and had a two run triple in the second. His second inning triple was one of three run-scoring hits in a five-run inning, an inning that knocked UML starter Dan White (Southboro, Mass.) from the game.
Jack Cawley had an RBI double, while Vinny Damman and Brown each had run-scoring singles in the second.
The River Hawks scored their only run of the afternoon in the seventh inning. Luke Wallace (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) reached on an error with two outs and came around to score on a throwing error by Pace catcher Jack Cawley (Bronx, N.Y.).
Dustin Corbett (Vestal, N.Y.) got the win for Pace to improve to 7-3 on the season. Corbett did not allow a run on seven hits over 6.2 innings. Corbett struck out seven and walked two.
Mackenzie King (Blairstown, N.J.) pitched the final 2.1 innings of the contest. King allowed one run (unearned) on one hit and struck out three.
White got the loss for the River Hawks allowing five runs on four hits over 1.2 innings. White did not strike out a batter and walked two.
Tim Manton (Swansea, Mass.), who started the game in center field, pitched five innings in relief. He went 1-for-4 at the plate and allowed just one unearned run on six hits over the five innings on the mound.
Anthony Santos (Chelmsford, Mass.) was the only River Hawk with multiple hits. He was 2-for-4 on the day.
