Career HR Mark Included in Stellar Week
LOWELL, MA (Apr. 14, 2008) – Senior Laurie Tanguay (Lowell, MA) was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Week as she batted .630 and led the UMass Lowell softball team to a 6-2 clip last week.
The honor is the first of the season for Tanguay, a three-time NE-10 all-star who has helped lead the River Hawks to an overall record of 15-11 and a 9-3 clip in the Conference, good for third place.
Over the week, Tanguay batted 17 for 27, and slugged 1.000 with 12 runs and 10 RBI. She opened the week batting 4 for 6 with four runs and four RBI in a 10-0/3-5 split at Saint Michael’s, which included the 18th home run of her career to set the school record. She followed with a 5-for-7 effort with four runs and one RBI in a 12-2/10-4 sweep over Saint Anselm.
In a pivotal weekend, Tanguay batted 5 for 8 with one run and one RBI in a 1-3/7-5 split with Adelphi; and capped the week hitting 2 for 6 with five RBI and a run in an 8-6/5-2 sweep over Stonehill.
The latter win enabled UML to overtake third place in the NE-10 entering Tuesday’s twin bill with Merrimack (3:00).
For the season, Tanguay is batting .464 with a slugging rate of .726, 32 RBI, 24 runs nine doubles and three home runs.
A four-year standout at Lowell H.S., Tanguay is the daughter of Louis and Karen Tanguay of Lowell.
